STORY

A lady in a faded grey dress and her husband, dressed in a home-spun suit walked in timidly without an appointment into the Harvard University President’s outer office. The secretary could tell in a moment that such backwoods, country hicks had no business at Harvard and probably didn’t even deserve to be in Harvard.

The woman cleared her throat, her hands trembling slightly in her lap. “Well, sir, it’s about our daughter,” she began, her voice wavering with emotion. “She’s always dreamed of attending Harvard, but we just can’t afford the tuition.”

The President nodded sympathetically, understanding the plight of many bright students whose dreams were hindered by financial constraints. “I see,” he said thoughtfully. “And what is your daughter’s name?”

The couple exchanged a proud glance before the husband spoke up. “Her name is Emily, sir,” he replied. “She’s a straight-A student with a passion for learning, and we believe she has what it takes to succeed here at Harvard.”
