Mom and Dad, I’m coming home, but I’ve a favor to ask,” said Sergeant James Anderson, his voice laced with a mix of excitement and nervousness. His parents, Mary and Robert Anderson, eagerly waited on the other end of the line, their hearts pounding with anticipation. They hadn’t heard from their son in months, and the uncertainty of war had taken a toll on their spirits.

“Of course, Jamie, anything you need. Just tell us, son,” replied Mary, her voice shaky yet filled with the warmth only a mother could muster.

“I’ve made a friend in San Francisco during my deployment, a fellow soldier who doesn’t have a family to return to,” James continued. “His name is Mike, and he’s been through a lot. I can’t bear the thought of him spending the holidays alone, so I wanted to ask if it’s alright for him to join us for Christmas. We’ve become like brothers, and I can’t leave him behind.”

His parents exchanged a glance, their hearts swelling with pride for their son’s compassion. After a brief silence, Robert spoke, “Of course, Jamie. We’d be honored to have Mike join us. Family is not just about blood; it’s about the bonds we form in times of need.”
