Sally was driving home from one of her business trips, in Northern Arizona, when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road. As the trip was a long and quiet one, she

decided to offer the elderly woman a ride. The Navajo woman, named Mary, gratefully accepted and climbed into the passenger seat. Sally noticed that Mary carried a small bundle wrapped in a colorful blanket.

As they drove, Mary began to share stories of her life, weaving a tapestry of rich cultural history. She spoke about her family, the traditions passed down through generations, and the deep connection her people had with the land. Sally listened with fascination, gaining insight into a world she had only glimpsed from a distance.

As they neared Mary’s destination, she invited Sally to her home, eager to share a part of her world. Intrigued and grateful for the connection, Sally agreed. Mary’s home, a humble dwelling with a traditional Hogan nearby, was nestled against the backdrop of the striking Arizona landscape.
