The old seller paused, considering the woman’s offer. He knew times were tough, and every sale counted. But he also couldn’t afford to sell his eggs at such a low price and still make a profit. With a sigh, he decided to take a chance.
“Madam, I understand your offer, but I cannot sell the eggs for less than what they are worth,” the old man said, his voice tinged with regret.
The woman frowned, clearly disappointed. “But that’s all I can afford,” she protested.
The seller studied her for a moment, noting the worn clothes and tired lines etched into her face. He could see the strain of poverty weighing heavily upon her, and his heart went out to her.
“I tell you what,” he said finally, his tone softening. “I will give you the six eggs for $1.25, but on one condition.”
The woman looked at him, a glimmer of hope sparking in her eyes. “What condition?” she asked cautiously.
The old seller smiled kindly. “Promise me that when you are able, you will pay it forward and help someone else in need. We’re all in this together, after all.”
The woman’s eyes filled with tears, touched by the old man’s generosity. “I promise,” she whispered, her voice choked with emotion.
With a nod, the old seller gathered six fresh eggs and handed them to the woman, who clutched them to her chest as if they were precious jewels. As she turned to leave, she glanced back at the old man, gratitude shining in her eyes.
“Thank you,” she said softly, her words carrying the weight of a thousand blessings.
The old seller watched her go, a sense of peace settling over him. He may not have made much of a profit that day, but he knew that he had made a difference in someone’s life, and that was worth more than any amount of money.
As he returned to his stall, he couldn’t help but smile at the thought of the woman spreading kindness and goodwill to others in need. For in a world filled with hardship and struggle, it was the small acts of kindness that truly made a difference, and he was grateful to have played a part in that.
And so, with a renewed sense of purpose, the old seller continued on his journey, knowing that as long as there were people like him and the woman he had met, there would always be hope for a better tomorrow.
