As he reached for the doorknob, he heard a voice behind him. “Is everything okay?” It was Wanda, returning home from work earlier than expected. The repairman breathed a sigh of relief and explained what had happened.
Wanda chuckled and patted the dog on the head. “Oh, don’t mind Spike. He’s harmless, really. He just likes to put on a show to scare off strangers.” The repairman laughed nervously, grateful that he hadn’t been mauled by the ferocious-looking canine.
As Wanda wrote out a check for the repairman, she thanked him for his quick and efficient service. She was relieved to have her dishwasher working again and glad that Spike hadn’t caused any trouble.
With a wave goodbye, the repairman left Wanda’s house, feeling a sense of accomplishment and a newfound respect for both Wanda and her loyal companion. And as he drove away, he couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought of Spike, the fearsome watchdog with a heart of gold.
